My daughter purchased this plant, leaves started yellowing and dying, hence the bare lower half of the trunk. She asked me to take it and try to save it. Same is happening for me. Any suggestions??

    Are the white specks in the photos pests? Kind of looks like it’s infested from here. I’d suggest chopping all the leaves, unpotting it, cleaning all the dirt off in a bath, then rinse the whole plant, roots and all, in a hydrogen peroxide bath, and repot in fresh soil with a good fertilizer and a snug pot. Should send up new growth pretty readily after that.

      Not sure what those specks were. Didn’t look like bugs, and we’re on two leaves that I saw. I wiped off all leaves, will keep an eye out to see if they come back. If I take it out of pot as you suggested, should I cut it down? Or re-root the top? Thanks

      I would lop about 1/3 of the length off and then yes, I’d root the top.

    These are very prone to mites indoors. I would look for those first.

    Have you checked for rot or root bound ?

      I have not checked for root rot but that’s obviously possible. I’ve had the plant for only 2-3 weeks. I’ve watered it once, it was pretty dry. Thanks

    If your not seeing pests. Then 1 they are sensitive to tap water. 2 they scorch under bright light. I see it's in full sun, is it might be too much.

      What type of water should I be using? And yes was wondering if it’s getting too much sun, as my daughter had it right in her window. Planta says it needs full sun. Hmm?

      You can use spring, filtered, distilled, Reverse Osmosis. I've been experimenting the last few months using API aquarium water conditioner on tap water, it's going really well. Just make sure it's just water conditioner, and not the ones with additives.
