My spider plant had been looking sick since November, about a month and a half after we brought it inside because of the cold. I don’t have the premium for this app, and so can’t use it to diagnose. The leaves feel weird to the touch (vague description sorry) and it’s all droopy. Does anyone know what’s wrong with it and what I should do? The purple tint if from the lamp jsyk.

I struggle with spider plants so my suggestion would be to switch it to water until it bounces back.

I think the plant might be too big to put it in just water, but I don’t know

Maybe switch to a chunkier soil then!

What type of soil is that? It’s hard to tell from the photo. Potting mix that hold a lot of water like peat or sphagnum moss can rot the roots. Spider plants have very thick roots that already hold a lot of water. They do well in a standard mix with lots of perlite or other aggregates that increase drainage rate. The color looks pale. It needs more light and may need to be closer to the grow light. You can fertilize it with 50% diluted fertilizer once a month in the colder months. That will give it some color. 🍀🪴

I already have it very close to the light, but I’ll try switching out the soil

Of course I couldn't say anything for sure, but it looks like there are a lot of small plants in a big pot. I'm thinking maybe your pot is not drying out quickly enough for those little plants which could lead to root rot. Perhaps take the healthiest plants and put them in a smaller pot either together or separately.

Spider plants are sensitive to things that are in tapwater. I only use distilled water on my spider plant.

Would water from a refrigerator filter work?
