Hi I need some advice, so I needed to report my snake plant and accidentally used the wrong soil which was wayyy to most/damp. The snake plant after about a week started turning yellow and leaves were curling so I took it out its soil today and its roots are super red now :(…. I’m not sure if it’s completely root rot or not and if I need to cut off any roots . I was planing on just letting the roots dry out for the night and repotting with better soil tmrw? Any suggestions it would really help 🫶🏽

root rot is bacteria so just soak in a peroxide/water mix and then repot in a chunkier soil. snake plants can be resilient so if you’re concerned, you can switch to water until the roots are stronger and repot. i have a snake plant i rooted in water and now two new pieces sprouted in months.

it doesn’t look rotten to me, though the texture and smell of the roots can be a better indicator. healthy roots are firm and have no smell unless broken. rotten roots are squishy and smell fungal or otherwise like decay. use an airy mix in the future with at least half grit (i prefer pumice) for succulents like snake plants. their roots are typically bright orange, yours actually look a little pale. an airy mix and allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings will help. it’s always better to wait if you’re unsure if a succulent needs water
