Help! Found this little thing moving around in my peace lilly when I watered and gave her a trim this morning. I water about every 3 weeks when the soil is dry and she starts to droop. Pot has drainage holes but I’m scared after repotting a few months ago I went too big for pot size, going from 6in-8in so maybe soil isn’t drying out long enough. Root ball was pretty compact and root bound when I repotted
Hi! I forget the specific species name for this critter atm, but it’s not gonna be a harm to your peace lily. If anything, it’ll help decompose organic matter in the soil for you. I know how scary spotting some new bug in your plant is, though, so if you don’t want the free landscaper in there, I’d put some gloves on and take a spoon to gently scoop it and some soil out into a cup, then gently set it out into your garden. As much as houseplant lovers are taught to be on high alert about pests, there’s just as many beneficial insects that can stowaway in a new plant. As for repotting, opt for a pot no more than 1-2 inches wider in diameter than the width of the plant’s root ball, NOT the plant itself. Fill it in with some fresh soil if you’re worried this critter has friends or family in there, and you should be all set. (Oh, and avoid Miracle Grow’s soil for this. Peace Lilies are more tropical, but their soil is still too-peat heavy. It does need to at least partially dry out between waterings, so try to opt for an All-Purpose Mix by Espoma, FoxFarm, or another brand you’ve had good luck with. Hope this helps! 😊
2 likesI had them too! Turns out my plant was not getting enough sun so the soil is staying damp but i repotted it and is doing so good
