My first fern, Bird’s Nest Fern, so not sure what to expect. I checked the leaves and saw no sign of mites or anything. I get home and can see the middle good… surely this isn’t normal? 😞

Looks fine to me! Birds nest ferns are actually named after how the fiddleheads look like eggs in the middle of the fern; it’s a trait of the plant that you can see the middle.
1 likeYou just made me feel so much better! Thank you!!
1 likeThe more I look at it, I’m really worried about spider mites or mealy bugs on the fiddleheads. I’ve cleaned and sprayed 🤞 Hopefully you’re right and I’m just paranoid!
1 likeThose strings don’t look like spider mites to me. Cleaning new plants anyway is good thinking though!
1 likeWhew! I just tossed a Calathea because I couldn’t get a handle on the spider mites on it. I’m overly paranoid now, lol
0 likesYeah, pests are a pain. I’ve got a mealy bug problem right now and I’ve taken to cleaning the infected plants monthly and spraying neem oil everywhere. If it was warmer I’d repot them all!
1 likeNot sure why anyone thought this was a relaxing hobby 😂
2 likesI haven't had this on ferns, but I have on some hanging plants. It may be different but that looks pretty normal to me. No need to worry!

0 likesMostly this looks completely normal and beautiful. There were a couple little spots on the leaves that look like possibly the start of a pest, perhaps thrips. It's hard to tell they still could be part of the normal plant growth. I'm always suspicious of a little whitish spot. As a precaution I would spray it with horticultural oil or neem just to be on the safe side since you just brought it from the greenhouse.
1 likeI did! Cleaned and neem oil. Thank you!
0 likesIt's not spider mites so you can take that off your worry list.
