Help! Ants keep trying to nest in my indoor plants and I can’t get rid of them. I take the plant outside and heavily water the plant to wash the ants out. Wipe the ants off the shelf and have tried ant traps and they just keep coming back. The ants are not tending any pests like aphids or scales and I spray the plant down with diluted isopropyl just in case. What can I do to get rid of the ants? Ants seem to really like the heart fern

Try cleaning the area around the plant, this will cut off the ant pheromones that tell them theres a good nesting area nearby. Peppermint essential oil overpowers the scent, dilute it with water and spray it around all entrances.

Ants do not like the smell of vinegar, it overpowers their senses and it makes them feel like they are in a radio-silet zone from the other ants. If you wipe/spray some diluted vinegar on the shelves where you keep your plants, they might avoid them.

This sounds odd, put a hummingbird feeder with the ant trap on the top. Put the feeder outside. I put mine at my kitchen window and the ants went for it and left my kitchen alone
