Happy thanksgiving for all americans and happy random thursday for everyone else! I’m posting two plants from a friend of mine, he is having issues with pests in his first pothos (we think it’s a caterpillar, any ideas on what it is and what to do?) and for the second, the pothos is browning (i told him it was because of over/under watering, but if anyone else has any ideas let me know!) there both obviously indoor plants, and on top of shelves in his kitchen. if anyone has any ideas, let me know! have a wonderful day!

    The first thing I’d do is inspect them for pests. How consistent is the watering schedule?

      he hasn’t seen any bugs or anything on them, but he also doesn’t check the often just because of where they’re placed. he waters them every few weeks, but they’re fairly low maintenance so he doesn’t water them too much

      Pothos should be watered every 14-18 days. Watering every few weeks is stressing the plant. Without proper watering, the plant can not take up nutrients needed for photosynthesis. Perhaps all your friend needs is a watering reminder on his phone and the plant will be good as new in no time!

      are the holes from underwatering as well?

      i checked and he actually said that he’s watering them weekly, are you sure it’s from the water intake?

    It looks dry. Water when the soil dries and not by a schedule. That time will depend on the environment. My pothos and philodendrons need water every 5 - 7 days being in subtropical Texas with high temperatures and humidity. They dry out faster indoors in colder months when I bring them inside and the heater dries the air. I water about every 5 days in colder months. Low humidity and low light can cause similar issues. 🪴🍀

      I’m not sure since I only have photos. I would check the soil for moisture and root rot to see if it is overwatered. I would look for dry rot in the roots to see if it is under watered. Healthy roots could indicate another cause like low light or low humidity. 🪴🍀
