Can anyone give me some tips on bringing my ivy back to good health?… | Pests, diseases and problems | Plantaコミュニティ

Can anyone give me some tips on bringing my ivy back to good health? Poor guy hasn’t been doing too well. He was hanging in front of a window, but got pretty much no sunlight and I don’t think he was being watered enough. I moved him to a different window today hoping more direct sunlight would help, but I only gained custody of him as of a month ago, so I’m still a bit unfamiliar with ivy care. Anyone have any other tips?

It looks like your ivy is struggling a bit, but it’s great that you’re taking the initiative to give it a fresh start! Sunlight: Ivy thrives in bright, indirect sunlight. If you just moved it to a spot with more direct sunlight, it could be a good move, but make sure it’s not getting too hot or scorched, as ivy can get damaged by too much direct sunlight. Aim for indirect light if possible. Watering: Ivy prefers to stay slightly moist but not soggy. Water it when the top inch or two of soil feels dry. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so ensure the pot has good drainage. If the plant has been underwatered, it might take a while to recover, so be patient. Humidity: Ivy enjoys a humid environment, so if you can increase the humidity around the plant, that would help. You can mist the leaves gently every few days or place a small humidifier nearby. Pruning: If the vines are looking too dry or damaged, you can trim them back to encourage new growth. This will also help it look healthier and more vibrant. Repotting: If the plant is root-bound (its roots have filled up the pot), it might need to be repotted into a slightly larger pot to give the roots more space to grow. Make sure the new pot has proper drainage. Fertilizing: During the growing season (spring and summer), you can fertilize with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer every 4-6 weeks. Don’t fertilize in the winter when the plant is dormant. Ivy can be pretty resilient, so don’t give up on it! It might take some time to bounce back, but with consistent care, it should start to look better.

Check for living roots. It’s likely all dead since the base of the plant looks dead. Cut off all the dead vines. Propagate what you can. I would clean all the soil off, disinfect the roots with peroxide and put in water to recover. This assumes viable roots and vine. 🪴🍀
