Please help! I just got this baby monstera less than a month ago and I’ve had two yellow leaves pop up and his new leaves are coming in damaged and with brown crusties :/ I don’t see any pests and I’m not over/ under watering I don’t think! I let the top of the soil dry out to about 1-2 inches before watering, so far I’ve only watered I think 2 times and fertilized once since having him

In my opinion it’s probably because there are multiple plants in the same pot. I just rescued a “split leaf philodendron” from Lowe’s that was actually 10 monstera deliciosas crammed into one pot. 75% of them are battling stem rot. Most plants do not like being so close together.

There are two cuttings in the pot so maybe I need to repot them separately?

They look to be struggling with pushing the new leaves out

I mean…I would, but I’m sure others may disagree. I have so many plants that at this point I shed no tears if rescue attempts/experiments fail.

I don’t think you have a monstera deliciosa here! The leaf shape is similar, but it looks like a rhaphidophora tetrasperma or “mini monstera”. They’re similar with watering though. Usually when new growth comes in brown with yellowing leaves it’s indicating a watering issue in my experience. You might want to try letting it dry out a little more between waterings and see if that helps.

Thank you! I updated it on the profile so hopefully that and letting it dry out more helps!

I second the watering issue, it’s not the amount of water but how often and your soil mix in my opinion. I’ve had similar issues with my regular monstera and it indeed was a watering issue

Thank you! I’ll hold off on watering for a bit and see if it improves:) possibly going to repot soon as well if I don’t see improvement within a month or two

Not a bad idea ! I didn’t want to disturb my monstera but I’m glad I did because she ended up having root rot ! Fingers crossed that’s not the case for you tho ! It wouldn’t hurt to check them tho for sure

Definitely do a repot if you haven’t yet! Or just change the soil and stick it back in the same pot. Worth checking the roots to make sure there’s no rot and get it into soil with more drainage. Most of the time the soil they come in is too dense and holds onto way more water than needed plus most stores don’t know the watering needs and tend to overdo it, starting issues for you that you can’t see until you repot. Lots of drainage is always your friend with these kind of plants!
