any idea what this white stuff is on my new snake plant leaf? otherwise looks very healthy
Looks like damaged remnants of a spider web. This shape of web is used as a den by jumping spiders, so it's nothing to worry about. This one looks abandoned, so you can just pull it off the leaf (a damp paper towel might help.) If you find intact or occupied ones, keep them around and your resident spider will help manage pest insects for you
