Summer

I sowed these seeds this last Saturday (day before Easter) . A few have begun to sprout but I’m dealing with this strange spiderweb-like substance growing on top of my tray. Some say mold, some say it’s a good thing and I don’t know who to believe. There isn’t a lot right now because I’ve been clearing it out, but if it’s good someone let me know so I can keep letting it grow lol. It seems to only be growing on my sunflower seeds.

Omg! That grew on my sunflower seeds as well when they were growing! In my experience they are bad. They didn’t help my sunflower seeds grow at all! I think it might be spider mites

Thank you so much for your comment I will continue to remove it from my seedlings :-) thankfully though I do not think it’s spider mites as there aren’t any bugs in my tray!

There are some types of mold that appear spider web like. For the most part they appear on germinating seeds as they break down the remaining husks of seeds (usually on larger seeds). Usually harmless to the actual plant. So I would just keep an eye on it if I were you.

Thank you! Is it normal that it’s growing so soon? I noticed it pretty much a day and a half after I bought the dirt and the seeds and planted them

I’ve not seen it appear that quickly. It might have something to do with the temperature the seeds (I find 65F/18C to be a good temp for slowing any mold) are germinating in or if the soil is too wet.
