Happy Tuesday Planta’s!! I realized that these spots started to show up on my white princess philodendron about a week or two ago. I assumed it was normal but now as I am looking at photos of other peoples, I don’t know if it is normal. I’m just wondering if this is something that should be concerning and if any of you have dealt with this, how did you fix it? Also, a few of my leaves are curling, but I think it may just be due to transplant. Shock because I moved this from a larger container into a smaller one. First photos will be of the new splitting I’m more concerned about. Also any tips on how I would make my mother plant more variegated like the baby it produced.? All of the green is kinda plain to me, idk if I chop it and restart or if that will just remove the rest of the variegation left 🙈 please help

    hi, I suspect you’ve got a sucker munching away. They’re sucking out all of the green which is why you’ve got paler patches. The spots are where they’ve sunk their teeth into. If you have tissue paper, fold like 4 pieces together, wet it, and wipe the back and front of your leaves. If there’s any streaking, you have bugs.

      As in like a pest.?!? Omg you’ve got to be lying 😭 I GO EXTERMINATOR ON THOSE THINGS. What do you mean by streaking after wiping? Also another question now, I checked my Monstera Standleyana and it had a large thing crawling around, looked like a light grayish silver small pill or circular shaped bug that was moving quite fast. Like it knew I found him and he was in trouble.. I just made a mixture of insecticidal soap, dish soap and Neem oil and dumped it on top of the soil and then watered it. I hope that kills whatever’s under the soil 😭

      Honestly the bug I’m talking about resembled a pill bug but without the markings on the back that allow them to roll up

      Hi, yes some kind of bug. Streaking, like you smeared something on the paper in a line. It’s the bug being smushed from wiping. Please send photo of bug. For your mix, don’t use dish soap. Dish soap breaks oils and plants have oils on their cell walls to protect it from drying out. If you melt it off with soap, it’ll burn in the light. Insecticidal soap and neem is sufficient but depends on what you are killing. Beneficial bugs like rolly Polly are good for your soil. You don’t want dead soil - dead soil is a lot of work. You want beneficial helpers like spring tails to break down organic matter in your mix. Without a clean up crew, it’s easy for the mix to get really funky.

    I didn’t see any sign of streaking, just a few bits of soil. Is it possible the discoloration and slight curling is from being in shock after repotting.? I did remove all the soil from the roots because I wanted to check and make sure everything was okay. As for the monstera I don’t see anything crawling around in there anymore. There was only one singular one that I saw, and I’m assuming it was because I had them outside last night. But I DESPISE bugs. I have seen springtails once and this was much larger, I’m really unsure of what it is cause it doesn’t show them anywhere I’ve found online. Do you think the concentrate that I just used before watering it will damage the root system or the plant in the way you mentioned 😭. I haven’t done that before, it suggested it online..
