The pot is too big. Too much soil for the plant to use up all the water. So water sits on the roots too long causing root rot. A 3” or 4” pot with a peat potting mix liberally sprinkled with perlite for excellent drainage is all that is needed. (Notice the tiny pot my reverse variegated spider baby is in.) The current soil is too dense/muddy looking. Additionally, move to bright indirect sunlight or add a grow light. More indirect light for at least 6 hours is needed to get darker leaf color and distinct lines if variegated. Water only when the soil is dry. The thick roots of spider plants can hold a lot of water.

Thick roots, but, not root bound because water flows through very well.
