Had to cut off a few branches from my limelight hydrangea tree due to fall webworms. 😫 I then sprayed with neem oil to, hopefully, kill/deter any eggs I missed. Any other suggestions to help keep them away would be greatly appreciated!

These things were awful growing up. They would fall off a tree on your head before you realized the tree was infested. We couldn’t prevent them. My father used bbq lighter fluid and a bbq lighter to burn the nest. I used wasp insecticide foam because I can stand very far and suffocate them with with the foam and insecticide. 😁Never saw them again after the squirrels populated the new subdivision. 🪴🍀

You could just leave them be. Because fall webworms are active so late in the growing season, the plants are already ready to be defoliated and aren't likely to be harmed. Species that are active earlier in the spring or summer can do a lot of damage, but these guys are harmless and the hydrangea should come back fine next year

Thanks for the info! I just wanted to be sure since they completely covered the small tree we had a couple years ago and it never recovered. this new tree we just planted this past spring and I just want to make sure they wouldn’t do the same to this one
