Hi!! This is my first time dealing with fungus gnats (I’m assuming that’s what it is), and I’ve tried everything from sprays to a homemade mixture of sugar, soap and vinegar to get them gone! They seem to only be in these two plants (a pothos and what will be wildflowers, if it grows), but they just won’t go away! I think it’s the eggs that keep them going, cuz the spray kills the adults. Any ideas or recommendations or tricks to get rid of them are greatly appreciated!! They’ve been going on for about a month and a half, and the pothos came from Walmart outside, so I’m assuming that’s where they came from.

Hi! To kill the larvae in the soil, mix 1 part 3% hydrogen peroxide & 3 parts water. Water your soil with this mixture when it’s time to water next and repeat until the gnats are gone. Let the soil dry out in between waterings. If you need to do multiple treatments, (more than 3) just try to alternate with regular water as you don’t want to kill all the good bacteria in the soil and/or shock the roots. As another preventative measure - mix mosquito bits in with the top layer of your soil and replace as necessary. You can buy it on Amazon! Just do some research about it first and make sure to follow the instructions & measurements carefully when using mosquito bits. One other way to prevent gnats laying eggs in your soul is to place a top layer of sand, rocks, or pebbles. This prevents them from getting in there! And of course, be mindful about overwatering and poor drainage, as this is the main cause of pests & root rot. I use all 3 methods on all my plants and is super effective as long as you’re on top of pests when they show up. I hope this helps!

Also, one more thing to note is to always make sure you properly prune & clean up any dead or rotting foliage from the plant & topsoil. Pests love this stuff so don’t leave it hanging around šŸ’ššŸŒ±

Walmart is notorious for infected plants but I bet you can save them with these methods šŸ’ššŸ’š

Mix Bti drops or Mosquito Bits granules (contains Bti) with water per direction on the container. Use it each time you water. No need to mix the Mosquito Bits pieces into the soil. Bti is a friendly bacteria that kills the larvae in the soil and ends the lifecycle of the gnats. This is the only method I use on my 140+ plants. I don’t need to use the yellow sticky butterflies when I bring in a plant with fungus gnats. Good luck!šŸ€šŸŖ“
