OK, so this is gonna be kind of long winded. I got this aloe plant for my great aunt nine years ago and I took it home and it was thriving for a while but then I went to college and left it with my mom (a known plant killer lol) thinking that it was pretty hearty and kind of hard to kill an aloe plant of this size. but I think the damage has been done. I've been trying everything I can after I moved home from college to help revive it and strengthen it but nothing seems to be helping. any tips?

I would say take it out of this pot and rinse the dirt off and check the roots, they could have root rot. Chop off the bad roots if there are any and repot in a well draining soil. Take off the dead and dying leaves, give it a good water and give it some time

Trim off the dead parts and repot it, it's pretty tight in there. Id also divide out sone of those pups into their own pots. That's browning on the base of the mother plant is normal as they age, the stem hardens and turns brown.

Chop off dead leaves, repot and remove some pups and let it dry out a little
