Does a puppy count as a pest? no idea but i need help keeping a certain little guy away from my plant shelf? Any tips for keeping a puppy away from vulnerable plants? He's taking plants off the shelf and trying to eat them and is constantly chewing on my tree despite the fact that he is outside for 20 minutes every hour to do his thing. My mother said to try cinnamon but the puppy ate all the cinimmon sticks-

Puppies chew on everything. Just like anything else he chews on, redirect to a toy or a bone to chew on instead.

I went through the same thing with my dog when she was in the puppy stage! They explore the world with their mouths when they’re little and it doesn’t go well for the plants. I found that fencing off the section of your rooms that have plants with baby gates is the most effective (think playpen but to keep the plants in and the dog out) If it’s any consolation… they will grow out of it. My dog will sniff some of my plants that are on her level, but she doesn’t bite them or try to play with them anymore. Redirect, give distractions and scold when they’re even close to the plants. It’ll be rough for a while but it’ll get better!!! ❤️‍🩹 🪴

You should check the toxicity of all plants when you have pets and small children. Ingesting these plants may not immediately kill your pets. But, some can make them very sick depending on the amount they ingest. The quickest prevention is to move the plant out of reach and not rely on topical treatments. There is no fool proof sprays or powders to stop pets from eating plants. There is a bitter spray available at pet stores that discourage pets from chewing furniture. You can try spraying it on large plants that can’t be raised off the floor after verifying it won’t damage plants.

definitely trying to keep him away as much as possible for this puppy stage. as he gets older he’ll grow out of it but it just takes a little time! for the first year i had them, my puppies chewed on EVERYTHING, but especially the stairs!!! now a few years later, they are not chewers at all, even with new things they’ve never seen before. it’ll take a little time, but usually by year 1 or 2 they’ve moved on
