OMG. My beloved pink allocasia has thrips. I've never had thrips before, and I'm freaked out. Anyone have any special tips beyond the standard clean it spray it, isolate it? Has anyone successfully recovered a plant from this??

1 me gustaAgree, they are Mealy bugs. Kill them will isopropyl alcohol on a Qtip. They will turn brown and die. Then clean the whole plant really good. Then just keep an eye on it, you may have to keep repeating the process for weeks until they are gone

Oh! Good to know. Will look that one up
0 Me gustaNeem oil kills mealybugs as well. Check the soil for soil mealybugs. Rinse the soil with hydrogen peroxide.

Alocasias get those white spots there, on the veins, it’s normal. If it’s mealy bugs the spots will be fuzzy looking on the margins. Definitely not thrips that I can see.

Hm. So maybe it’s something else causing the leaf issue then!
0 Me gustaThere are already great suggestions here, but I’ll add: Neem oil is an effective broad-spectrum treatment for pests like mealybugs and thrips and is easy to apply. After treatment, focus on improving airflow and monitoring humidity to help prevent further pest spread and plant stress.
0 Me gustaMealy bugs :( clean with isopropyl alcohol and a gentle towel.
