Hey guys, Can someone tell me why my silver dragon alocasia has rotting leaves? I water once a week when the soil is mostly dry. He is in a naked root pot and has good air flow. I recently started misting him along with my other plants grouped together and noticed he rotted off two leaves already going on 3😭 he’s still making new ones though so not sure what’s going on. Should I transfer him to a glass jar with lecca?
Have they all been the bottom leaves?

You are probably watering too soon between watering. In the naked root planter, typically you monitor how long it takes for the water to dissappear from the bottom reservoir, but it shouldn't be left for more than a week, I believe. Most plants should be taking in the water well before that. I would let the plant get completely dry before you water again. You can use a wooden skewer to check the dirt.
4 J'aime I only water him when he is completely dry. I will leave the water in the bottom cup for a few hours then dump it if he does not drink it. I thought it was because I wasn’t watering enough but now I’m not sure 😭

Sphagnum moss doesnt hold on to nutrients very well. What fertiliser do you use?
0 J'aime I use the naked root fertilizer and I put the sphagnum moss recently to trap in moisture as I know Alocasia prefer that. Should I take it out?
0 J'aime You shouldn't have to dump out the water because the plant roots suck up the water over time. That's the whole point of bottom watering. The plant likely isn't getting enough water.

0 J'aime Just water and let the plant suck up the water. Typically with that size pot, it'll take at most a day. You don't need to do anything else. The corms you can prop in a clear pot with some water. Side note on the moss, I'm not familiar with it. I use a chunky mix that I make and use it with all my plants.
0 J'aimeHey, so I use these pots for a lot of my plants, in soil, soil-less, and semi-hydro. You may need to adjust the way you’re using the pot, the watering may be a bit off. For the soil based ones, I follow Naked Roots usage instructions - put water in the reservoir and allow it up to a few days to soak up what’s desired, then empty out any remaining water. The pot is then allowed to mostly dry (50-75%), which takes some days depending on plant’s growing environment. Before watering again, I look at the moisture on the inner pot and also use a chopstick to check the moisture. In total it is usually more than 7 days between watering following this process. Also, my Alocasia in this set up are lightly fertilized with each watering. If you’re dumping after a few hours, it’s probably not soaking up as much water. Based on the usage instructions. I’m not experienced with moss on top of soil, so I can’t speak to that.
