About 6 months ago I got 2 ferns my first ones ever. They also looked like this. I r wet potted one and after 5 months it started to look a little better. The other one I didn’t repot but trimmed off dead stuff and it looked worse and worse but recently it’s been growing a little. I water them every week. I have a tray under them because water runs right through out the bottom of the pots and then they slowly soak it up over a few days. I try to mist them often. Idk if any thing I do with my ferns is correct care but it seems to be working. That’s my experience as a new fern owner anyway, maybe it will help

The one repotted but however I think it did stress the plant a bit

I wonder if moving them stresses them?

Could you put a humidifier in the room that your fern in is? I’ve always found ferns to be a little fussy. The one that I had for years did well in my bathroom which had south facing window but filtered light.

I'll first say I haven't had a lot of luck with ferns. The maidenhair I've had for about 5 months took some trial and error. Right now the set up that seems to be working is that it's in a self-watering pot. Close to the humidifier. It's on the bottom shelf partially shaded by nearby plants from the east-window morning light and a nearby growlight.

I think ferns are probably underwatered and need way more humidity than they get to thrive. I’d try adding a humidifier and even watering more often. Here’s mine for credentials 🫡
