The leaves on my aloe Vera have changed colour and it’s making me nervous. I repotted it a while ago, around February. Is that the reason like the change and it’s just adapting or is it a water issue? It’s not very noticeable in the picture I just realised but they’ve gone a little darker like browny. And the leaves are softer when I press them

    I would definitely obtain additional opinions because I have had mixed results with my aloes, but once I was overwatering mine and this is how the signs of root rot began. It progressed but I was eventually able to rescue most of the plant by cutting off parts that were dying and putting it in a brighter spot, a smaller pot, and reducing watering. But again, that’s just one idea! And whatever the problem is, I think you’re catching it early.

    How often are you watering your aloe? Are the leaves feeling soft or still nice and firm? Aloes really prefer a gritty, fast-draining mix, and from the photo it looks like the current soil might be a bit too organic and compact, which can hold onto moisture longer than they like.

      I watered it 8 days ago and I usually only water it once or twice a month when the soil is fully dry. When I repotted it I used a succulent soil mix which supposedly says “perfect balance of aeration and drainage” maybe I need to mix in some more grittier parts into the mix, idk. The leaves are softer like when I check them they slightly squish, not rotting or deterioratingly so but still a slight squish which is what originally sparked the concern. The colour is a recent shift. 😅😭

    I would recommend mixing in some perlite, pumice, or sand for a grittier mix - the soft leaves and the color change are leading me to think it could be over watering, do you water from the top or bottom water?

    this is big bertha. The only thing I do with her is rarely water and when i do its like a cup of water so theres no wet soil left after a day. She is right at a south facing window with direct sun for at least 12 hours a day and goes outside when its warm out for enrichment time 😂

      Oh em gee! I love big Bertha! I’m in England so sun is on low supply and I’m in uni accommodation so taking her outside is an issue 😭. Maybe I should open up the window and put her by the entrance 🤔

      definitely anywhere that gets the most sun! granted when i lived there and visited my family near Chester it was always gloomy and raining 😂

    If the leaves seem to be getting thinner and sort of curling in on themselves, or they’re losing color from the tip downwards, you might be under watering. If they’re getting mushy or losing color starting at the base, you’re probably over watering.
