I was gifted this orbifolia prayer plant at work for my birthday. I’ve been keeping it in the office but when I received the plant, it had brown edges. Anyone have any idea why? I’m hoping new leaves won’t look like this but wondering what went wrong to begin with.
Most likely causes are need for higher humidity and may not like the tap water. This is an absolutely beautiful plant when thriving. Leaves can become quite large. But it needs humidity of at least 40 to 50 percent. And is sensitive to tap water with certain minerals and/or chemicals. Distilled or R/O water would be best. Not bottled mineral spring water. And leaving tap water sitting out overnight does not work, contrary to what many people claim.

This is my favorite plant and I have a bunch of them throughout my house and office, none of which are in high humidity locations and they are ok with Minneapolis tap water. if you don’t have the ideal conditions for this plant, I suggest trying to keep it alive wherever and monitoring it to see if the leaves continue to crisp. You could carrot cut off the crispy spots and see if the new edges crisp. I’ve found that calatheas are either incredibly fussy or super easy. This is my guy who lives in my freezing cold office with no natural light😅😅 (some of these leaves were crispy when I got it too)
