I have some leaves on a Mauna Loa Hoya turning yellow and dying from the bottom up, leaving behind a yellowed stem with no leaves at the bottom. There no bugs or apparent disease. I’ve checked for root rot. I keep it in bright indirect light at about 50% humidity and it’s done great until a few months ago when it started doing this. Should I air layer it and cut it off? How far up the stem should I go to put the root ball if I do that? Help!

It could be old leaves dying off if everything thing looks normal.

I thought of that but the leaves on the other branches aren’t doing that. I’ve also got lots of other Hoya and I’ve never seen leaves die off that fast. In fact, none of them have lost any leaves at all at the base of the branches like that. It’s a stumper! I think I’m going to try air layering it. That exposed stem is just too ugly.

Try Keiki cloning paste to force the leaves at the bare area.

I wish I could help! I just stopped by to say I have never seen one of these on a trellis. It's soo beautiful that it makes me want to trellis mine! 😍

Thank you! I noticed that the tips of the branches want to grow up so I figured it would do well on a trellis. I need a bigger trellis though.
