From what I can tell it is just normal aging of the stem! Some plants get an almost bark like stem

Oh wow really? That makes sense because all of my leaves have always done this and I got this anthurium a long time ago so it’s cool to think that the leaves with the most scratches were the leaves that were on the anthurium near the beginning
