HELP! We have had to our Red Star Cordyline in our living room for about 2 months now and she isn’t looking so great. Her leaves are starting to yellow and get crispy, she’s usually about 8 feet away from our window and we use filtered water to water her. We did move her closer to the window about a couple days ago and her leaves started to yellow. I moved her back to her original spot 8 feet from the window hoping to save her. Any advice would help!

Yellowing and crispy leaves on a Red Star cordyline are most commonly caused by improper watering, poor water quality, or too much direct sunlight. Inconsistent moisture and mineral buildup from tap water are frequent issues for these plants. 🙏🏽

So maybe help with a boost of plant food and keep a consistent schedule for the plant as far as sunlight and try not to move it much.

I figured, she’s been a bit tricky to figure out. We give her half a cup of water and it already seeps through out of the pot, should we be concerned about her roots or are we giving her too much water?

When was the last time you guys checked her roots?

We haven’t done a thorough check on her roots since getting her from a nursery two months ago

Yes it’s time for a new home and new soil and preferably a soil with good bacteria fighting agents and also a not so wet soil. Succulent soil is a good soil with perlite and if you do this you can still allow it to drain out the pot but remove any extra water once she is in her new home.

Now that I’m looking at your plant and it’s been about 2 months. It time for a bigger pot and also she needs pruning. Try propagating some leaves and try using more perlite and maybe a good organic soil for her.

I think that a half cup of water is not a thorough watering for a plant of this size…so after checking the roots, give it a good soaking and allow for all the water to drain for as long as it takes so it is not sitting in water. So a good soaking, mycorrhizae for the roots and fresh soil hopefully will help.
