I’ve noticed recently that a lot of people are posting about overwatered plants. Something that I’ve learned from my thorough research and experience is that most plants prefer to dry out between waterings. A great way to check if a plant needs to be watered is to insert a wooden skewer or chopstick, leave it in for a minute, and if it comes out dry with no dirt on it, it’s time to water. And remember that Planta’s schedule is never going to be completely accurate! ALWAYS check before watering your plant! Here is a list of plants that like to dry out between waterings: Succulents, cacti, moth orchids, peperomia, tradescantia, monsteras, pothos, philodendrons, spider plants, syngoniums, dracaena, corn plants, money tree, ZZ plants, aglaonema (Chinese evergreen), cast iron plant, Chinese money plant, umbrella plant, bromeliads, hoya. Plants that don’t like to dry out between waterings: nerve plants, begonias, polka dot plants, ferns, prayer plants, rubber plants, birds of paradise, carnivorous plants (which require a whole different care system than most plants), alocasias, peace lilies, dieffenbachia. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
