Help! my Hoya is turning yellow and brown and has pests!!! I noticed my plant started to turn yellow and brown on some leaves but I didn’t have enough time to address the problem (this was 2 days ago) today I had a little time so I checked the leaves and 3 fell off with a small pull and where either completely yellow or brown. When examined one of the leaves I found a small white pests on it. I did a little research and I think they are springtails. I don’t have a picture because I quickly threw the leaf out the moment I saw bugs. I was wondering why my plant is dying, how to get rid of the pests (I’ll do a repot because the soil isn’t the best anyways) and if the pests are causing the problem or something else.

Spray your plant leaves off really good with a sprayer or water hose, then wipe each leaf front and back with 70% alcohol with a cotton ball, in tough to reach spots use a q-tip, be sure to repot in clean soil, then spray it really really good with neem oil, then for sure isolate this plant for a while away from your other plants.. if this plant was near some of your others check them and as a precaution spray them with neem oil as well

Thank you! I repotted the e plant into better draining clean soil and I think the pot was 1 inch too big for its roots. I sprayed down every leaf and cleaning everywhere. I only found 1 bug so I don’t think it was a total infestation. I also sprayed it with neem oil and now it’s being isolated

It could be overwatering or low light if you moved it or if it’s getting less sunlight. Add a grow light within a foot of it running 12-14 hours a day, if needed. Water only when the soil is dry or almost fully dried. The plant may be less active in lower light or in colder rooms and will use less water. Check the roots for rot when you change the soil. Cut any rot and disinfect roots/tools/hands with hydrogen peroxide. Clean the pot. I would not recommend wiping alcohol all over the plant. It can be too strong for some plants. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil instead.

Thank you! It used to get good light but now with the changing seasons I’m going to give it even more. I repotted the plant into better draining soil and cleaned everything throughly. Thankfully the roots weren’t rotted or damaged at all. It seems to be better and it’s being isolated right now.

Sounds good!👍 Check weekly for newly hatched pests. Treat as needed. It could take a few weeks to clear out the pests.
