This plant is at my public library and it is sooo sticky! Covered in what looks like corn syrup. It also has these little of white dots on it to… my thought is scales, any ideas?

I have that on a bunch of my neighbor’s plants. I just cleaned it off and it’s been a week and it looks better now. Try that. I’m no expert and I’m sure someone else will tell you better but I’d say until you get another response, try that’

definitely scale, i circled one of the bugs i spotted in your photo. the sticky substance is called honeydew, it’s their waste. the infestation looks pretty severe but luckily scale are relatively easy to treat. i would remove as many bugs as possible and wipe the whole plant down with an isopropyl alcohol solution
2 gillningarThanks y’all! It’s the library’s plant So I can’t treat it but I will tell the library Director, who I happen to be good friends with.
