Hi! New mini monstera owner here. I just bought this plant, quarantined it, and have not repotted it. I did water it two days ago after it dried out a bit, and I am worried that there might be spider mites. None of my other plants have any issues with pests right now and I am very keen on preventing infestations. I have not seen any webbing near the brown spots. What is going on?

If you don’t see evidence of pests like actual bugs or webbing, brown spots are usually a watering or a light issue. it could be in too big of a pot if it’s in a pot that is more than 2 inches larger than the root ball that could essentially lead to overwatering because the soil remains too wet for too long because there isn’t an adequate root system to drink the water provided in that much soil. Also, if you haven’t repotted it, check if it’s root bound, it’s possible it could be underwatered due to being root bound. Is the soil damp or dry (could be overwatering)? I water my monstera when the soil is half to 3/4 dry. Is it getting adequate light in quarantine? If That’s a regular Monstera deliciosa you won’t be able to once it’s huge (I have one that’s 8 feet tall), but I shower most of my plants once every month or two if I can (make sure you get top’s and bottoms of leaves and use room temp water) and then throw a fan on them to dry them off if the room they live in in doesn’t have good air circulation). This can help prevent a lot of pests as a preventative measure if you’re concerned. Good luck!
