Got my Ficus Benjamina 2 years ago and it has gone through a few cycles of huge leaf drop, small growth, more drop, becoming quite leggy in the process. Any tips on managing the ‘legginess’ and the balance — do I prune or leave alone?

    Has it been rotated? If it hasn’t and only the side by the window is sparse I think it’s too hot/close to the window. I don’t know the “correct” time to prune this type of plant, but typically early spring or late fall is good for pruning. Since this is indoors I think it’s your personal choice to prune now, and it can concentrated energy into new growth.

    These do really well with regular pruning. Because they're tropical, you can prune any time. New growth comes in the same direction as the top leaf that you keep. Don't remove any more than about 1/3 of the leaves in any one session. Rotating it can also help keep it even
