Hello! So my monstera albo borsigiana has one been doing great for the last month but now I see this!! (See pic below) I have researched and read that it could be humidity, I have a humidifier and have keep it above 58! I have grow lights on her and It’s currently summer here in WA state so it’s not cold. Not next to any heaters or AC, under grow lights. It’s planted in coco chips because it was angry for awhile and as soon as I put her in straight coco chips she did way better! Roots have grown a ton, I just checked them and no root rot or anything out of the ordinary and I can see her roots through the cup and they all look great! My other girl (monstera albo borsigiana) is doing the same thing but also has some light brown around it! The second is under the exact same conditions as the first! Also checked her roots (bottom pics) and they look great too! Can somebody please tell me what I’m doing wrong? Also this has taken a lot of time (at least a month) to get to this point. It was not fast. Any advice would be so helpful! Lots more roots than seen in the photos fyi.

hmmm maybe add more drainage/airflow — more holes up the sides of the pot? this looks a liiiitle too wet — the roots at the bottom might be sitting in water

I can definitely do that. I have some clear pots with more drainage that I can definitely change to!

How often are you watering? And are you allowing the medium to dry completely before watering again?

I was instructed by some friends to make sure to water often because the cocoa chips get dry and the roots might unintentionally dry out too much. However, I can definitely cut back on the watering to see if that helps.

It’s true this chunky stuff needs more frequent watering than soil because it doesn’t hang onto water the same way, but I do think these roots are sitting in water — adding more vents should help it dry out. you can pull it out to make sure the roots aren’t mushy anywhere, remove them if they are, and add more holes before repotting

I pulled it out to look at the roots and they looked good but I will def repot into something with more air and not water so often. I really appreciate you guys helping me out! 🙏🙏🙏 any other tips are welcome !!!
