Help! I got this Venus fly trap about 2 1/2 months ago from a Home Depot. It looked pretty rough when I brought it home and it hasn’t gotten much better or worse. Does anyone have any helpful tips to improve its health? Thank you

Hello, Distilled water is perfectly fine. You don’t need reverse osmosis. Rainwater is cheaper though. As long as it’s not tap. What this plant really needs is real sunlight and real bugs to eat. If it’s kept too wet but it’s in the dark, it struggles to uptake the water and will look like this (the leaves lose turgidity, which is when the leaves don’t have water so they lose their firmness). Put it outside in the shade somewhere after watering well. Carnivorous plants need to be fed, especially when there’s that many heads :D

Ok thank you! Does it matter how cold it is outside when I have it out there? Right now the low in my area is in the 40s and it’s dropping. So I’m nervous it may get too cold. Also, since I’ve had it inside, will I have to slowly adjust it to the sun outside since the rays will be stronger? Or will it be okay to just put it in the sunlight right away?

They can go down to 20s outside. Shouldn’t be an issue. Just bring it in if it gets too cold. You don’t have to worry too much about the light change unless you’re putting it directly in the sun. Even so, they can handle full sun.

I had mine indoors under a strong grow light and then transitioned it outdoors to live adjacent to the compost pile and it was very happy there. Full sun but the pot dries up faster out there so it needed frequent watering. I think roots like to stay a bit moist. It even bloomed!
