I think this lady might be beyond saving, but figured I’d post here as a long shot! We picked up a calathea medallion a few weeks ago that was doing great, but has almost immediately gone down hill in the last week or two. I checked with Planta’s diagnosis and it said it was over watered, so I repotted into fresh new chunky soil and have it in a east facing window, near a humidifier, and she has not revived even a bit. Photos of her original state and current state 😭

I don’t have any advice but same thing happened to me when I brought mine home. It had three leaves so I cut off the two that looked the worse and now two new ones have grown in. I did repot it when I brought it home so I assumed the disturbance caused the dying.

I also had this problem when I first got my calathea. I first brought it home and placed it directly in the window. The leaves got very dry and what I think was sun damaged so I moved it out of the window. Now she is thriving. Definitely give her time. Make sure to water with filtered water as calatheas are very picky.

Yea, I’ve been using distilled water (my husband printed me those cute little blue bubbly stakes to put in all my plants that need distilled water!) I think I’m going to try to take another look at the roots to see if there’s any root rot I missed and hope for the best! Thanks everyone 🙏🏻

I’ve never owned one, but I’ve heard Calathea’s are as dramatic, if not more, than Alocasias.

I would have to agree! We have several alocasias that we’ve had no issues with growing (and a few other calatheas) but this is our second medallion calathea and we just can’t seem to find what works for them!
