I am very worried. I got this beautiful pothos as a christmas gift, but when I got it home, a big fat mosquito flew out and I noticed the soil looks rotted… well actually, in the second picture, it looks like a bunch of webbing in there. I’ve housed it outside, away from other plants in the meantime, in case it’s spider mites or an infestation. Anyone know what’s wrong with him?

repot her asap to check the roots for rot & to agitate any pests! if you have any insecticide, put some in the soil as you repot or spray it on the leaves. otherwise i’d use a homemade castile soap/water mixture 🤗

With the webbing, do you think insecticide or the Castile soup mix will be enough? It seems covered in it

does it kinda look like mesh? a lot of plants come potted with a mesh plug around the root ball to help it establish a root system but they’re not all biodegradable :/ it’s safe to remove it though, i’ve had to do it with most of mine!

if it’s not a mesh plug, and just webbing on the roots and stems i would give it a good bath with water & hydrogen peroxide to fully soak it

It’s not mesh. It definitely looks like webbing in all directions across the dirt

It’s fungus from keeping the soil too wet. It won’t hurt the plant. No need to add chemicals. Let the soil dry out completely before watering again. That will eventually kill off the fungus. Ensure it has drainage holes. I recommend not repotting or disturbing the root system while the plant acclimates to its new home unless the roots are rotting and a repot is the only way to fix it. The plant can go through stress in a new environment. Repotting adds more stress. Give it 3 to 4 weeks to adjust.

I just saw there are no drainage holes! I’d imagine I’ll need to repot regardless

Repot immediately since it has no drain holes!😄 You can put it ins plastic nursery pot with drain holes. 🍀🪴
