Hi guys, I posted a couple days ago that I saw little tiny bugs in my plant. I wasn’t able to take a picture of it until today. They are so tiny. It’s hard to see them. I wish I could play a small video. Can anybody help me they’re very tiny and a little shiny, the smaller circle. You could see a tiny speck that is it thank you so much. I’m waiting for my soil to come in the mail so I could change out the soil.🖤🪴

it’s not a pest, just a small isopod! they eat any decaying things in the soil and help keep it nice and clean

if you’re super worried, try bottom watering instead of pouring water on top. bugs (especially isopods) don’t like dry habitats

So do you think changing soil would be unnecessary?🤍🪴

it could be, if it would give you some peace of mind then i think it’s worth it! but the lil silver guys are fine, just watch out for fungus gnats (annoying) and fuzzy white aphids, they’ll eat up the stems :/

Is it a springtail (not a pest)? If you gently blow on it, does it bounce up? Those are beneficial to plants 😊

I’ll have to check do you mean bounce up like jump?

Yes, they “spring” up when they have air blown on them or water sprinkled on them. I think they’re really cute lol

      Do they bite or fly?

They are part of your plants ecosystem and feed only off the compost's properties and avoiding the plant's healthy tissue and are harmless to humans (don’t bite/fly nor spread diseases or anything).

I agree that it could be an isopod or springtail, which are usually harmless, but if they look more like cottony things, or more like this white spot on your plant, it is possible they’re mealybugs. They tend to show up on the undersides of leaves, if that helps.

Thank goodness 😮‍💨 you’re probably fine, then. I definitely agree that bottom watering could help if you don’t care for them being in there. I started bottom watering all my indoor plants and I haven’t had a pest issue since

So do I just let them be? Will it affect the others?🤍🪴😩

The other bugs, or other plants? I think you can let them be, but if you wanna try bottom watering for any other plants that have the same insects, you can see if it changes their reappearance for you. Isopods and springtails are typically beneficial (and isopods are what roly-pollies are!), so there’s not much need to remove them unless they really upset you. Isopods in particular are often put in terrariums and ecospheres.
