Please tell me this is not scale!! I purchased a very mature dumb cane about a year ago and I believe it's always looked like this. I never thought twice about it because he's still thriving and is putting out alot of new leaves but he does drop leaves every now and then, or some turn yellow. I am a pretty new plant mom and have only recently learned about scale. None of my other plants seem to have it and it doesnt scrape off. Any and all advice is appreciated!
not scale. scale is bugs, these are normal corking scars. it happens as the plant gets older, the stem is just hardening to keep itself upright, you can assist with a stake or pole of some kind to give it some support so it doesn't have to get all woody
2 J'aime the ones on the leaves are also pretty normal, the petioles will move over time to follow light sources, and may cause minor damage to themselves in the process.
1 j'aime Oh, yay! I'm glad the only thing hurt is my pride. Haha I do have it all tied to a stake so it's supported. Its always been on a stake tho, I just updated the string to the green plant velcro. Does this ever go away or once it's there, it's there for good type of thing?
