Does anyone know what could be causing this to my jade plant. The weather here has been stormy the past week. Is it a lack of light? Pests? I haven't seen any bugs on the plant. The leaf is also turning a lighter green color.

Those are just the natural pores of the jade plant. They can become more apparent with the lightening of a leafâs color or when excess salts are shed from the pores. Very natural, nothing to worry about. As for the lightened leaf, if more than one lightens it could be a sign of overwatering. Hope this helps!
2 gillningarFrom the progress photos I can see on your account, yours looks to be quite healthy. Iâll attach a photo of my jade plant for reference, if that helps. Aside from the pores and lightened leaf, is there something else Iâm not seeing on your plant that youâre concerned about? If youâre new to jades, my best tips for a beginner would be to bottom water your jade (look up âhow to bottom water a plantâ if youâre new to it), place it in the brightest windowsill you have (a south windowsill is recommended, and they donât like humidity or drafts, so keep it away from the cold or exposure to humidity or rain), let the soil completely dry out before watering (I wait at least 10 days before watering in the summer and 15 days in the winter), and occasionally wipe the leaves down with a microfiber cloth every 3 months or so to help the plant absorb more light.
2 gillningarOne last tip! đ€« i rotate my jade a bit every time I put it back in its spot after watering to make sure all the sides of it get even sun exposure over time. It helps prevent it from growing unevenly on one side. If you see it start to lean in one direction or get âleggyâ, itâs telling you it needs more sunlight.
2 gillningarThank you so much! I really appreciate your help and advice! I don't have any "plant friends" so I appreciate hearing from someone else. Two of the leafs have lightened. I was traveling and my roommate watered it. I think he overwatered it a bit. I'm just always paranoid with this plant because it is one of my favorites and I love Jades. Any tips on how to possibly dry out the soil when it has been overwatered? I have it in a Southeast window. My anxiety sometimes gets the best of me when it comes to my plants. Btw your Jade is so pretty!
1 gillaIt has been storming here for about a week straight now, so I think it has gotten a lack of sun. I have my grow light on it right now.
1 gillaThanks! And no problem. Completely understand being anxious about a jade. I have one thatâs 30 years old and a cutting from my grandmotherâs plant, so I picked up a few tricks over the years to make sure I absolutely do not kill that jade đ jades are one of my favorites cause theyâre typically very low maintenance, and pretty hardy. As for fixing the overwatering, give it at least 10 days after itâs been watered, then check the soil with a bamboo/barbecue skewer to see if the soil has completely dried out. Donât water it again until the soil is bone dry. If it takes more than 10 days for the soil to dry out, the soil is possibly hydrophobic or doesnât contain enough drainage (this is very likely if itâs potted in any miracle grow soil). If you need to repot it, I use Espomaâs Organic Cactus and Succulent soil. As for the window, a southeast window and a grow light work just fine! Just make sure the grow light isnât too close or itâll scorch the leaves.
1 gillaAnd as for the storming, the jade shouldnât be too harmed by that as long as itâs got a grow light and is in the windowsill. Theyâre still getting sunlight even on overcast days. Itâs more of a matter of making sure itâs in a place that provides enough light MOST of the time.
1 gillaI am using Miracle grow cactus soil in my other jade plant (the one that has wet soil after a week) so that makes complete sense. I didn't realize the soil had that kind of issue. These are the plant parent things I still need to learn đ I'll definitely buy some of that cactus and succulent soil and re-plant it. I don't know what soil the one this post is about is in. It was gifted to me by an ex. It has lava rock and perlite mixed in on top. I wasn't having in problems with them till this week. I'm going to keep them under the grow lights for a couple of days to see if it was due to the stormy weather and lack of sun lately. Love that sorry of your jade plant! I'm hoping to have one that will last that long.
1 gillaOk, that makes a lot of sense. I did not turn the grow lights on till yesterday since they rarely need it due to always being in the windowsill. Another thing I noticed yesterday was condensation collecting under the pots on the saucers (small amounts) it was only happening with my Jades though.
1 gillaThe condensation is probably normal, and just from the water coming out of the drainage holes. You can put a paper towel under the pot after waterings to help with that. Youâll want to let the water drain completely from the pot after waterings to make sure the plant isnât sitting in excess water. And yeah, miracle grow is a lil infamous within the plant community for containing too much peat moss and not draining well at all, especially in more humid climates. I used their succulent soil a while back, added an entire bag of perlite for extra measure, and I kidd you not after 14 DAYS the soil was still completely moist. Nearly killed everything I planted with it within a span of 2 weeks, but they thankfully recovered after I repotted them in Espomaâs stuff. Box stores have deals with Miracle Grow to sell their brand exclusively, so despite the poor quality of their soil, itâs sold at Home Depot, Loweâs, etc. I get my Espoma bags at my local nursery or Ace Hardware, but if you donât see it in store, try looking it up and âin stores near meâ.
