My pothos keeps getting yellow leaves on this one vine. It’s never done that in the four years I’ve had it! Can anyone help me figure out what is wrong?

I know this is a long comment, but there’s several reasons why plant leaves can start turning yellow and it can be difficult to correctly diagnose online. The most common causes are that the plant is either drying out too much OR it is overwatered, or it’s either too much or too little light-and yes I realize that’s very confusing and frustrating! If it helps, here’s how I have learned to try to determine the differences: Yellow leaves due to underwatering/being thirstier can also have drooping leaves, curling leaves, soil that feels dry when you stick your finger in it (unless you just watered it), leaves that feel dry/thin/papery, be pale yellow, have browning leaf tips/edges that come after the yellow, and the oldest leaves will be affected first. Conversely, yellowing leaves due to overwatering will also have no drooping/curling, be a more bright yellow, have leaves that feel softer/wetter to the touch, include browning on the leaves as well (usually not just the tips or edges of the leaves), have older leaves that turn yellow, have new leaves that fall off, and have damp soil. If its too much light, the leaves will look more bleached and the leaves facing the light source/receiving direct rays will be most affected. If it’s too little light, the plant will not be getting any direct light rays, the fading/paling will be less intense, the leaves will look duller, and it will be the entire leaf. If it has been more than 1-2 years since you last repotted, it might also be time to repot. I’d also potentially check to see if you see a lot of roots coming out the bottom or anything to indicate that it needs a bigger pot. If there’s no roots coming out the bottom yet, it probably isn’t that.
3 Mi piaceThat is an excellent breakdown. Thank you for this! I am experiencing this very this with my pothos and philodendron so perfect timing with this post! 🙂
1 mi piaceAw glad it helped!
0 Mi piaceI second this comment!! ^^ I had to repot my pothos after two years for this reason, and also propagated some of my vines that weren’t as full and repotted them once they rooted! Which helped tremendously!
