Hi friends. My roommate has a large collection of plants, some of which have spilled over to the living room. I’ve started helping him take care of them since he’s a little overwhelmed and forgetful with watering. I just found a horrible spider mite and scale infestation and evidence of mealies on his plants. I’m gonna treat them right now but am wondering if y’all have ever had a situation like this and how to go about making someone take care of a pest problem. I’m just worried they’re gonna somehow get in my room and affect my collection. Thanks for any advice

my go to has been blasting the bugs off with kitchen sink thing. Let them dry then spray them with jacks dead bug. Ive also added systemic treatment to the soil bc I’ve been having so many bug issues

I would gather up their buggy plants and put them in their room. Give them all the info on how to treat them, send them some youtubes, set some calendar reminders, make them download Planta. Unfortunately you caring for them and dealing with the problem is just enabling them to continue to neglect and even expand. And you're gonna have to exercise some tough love or it's going to continue to be a burden.

Yeah you’re right. Might even suggest that he get rid of any of them he doesn’t care about too just to make it easier on him

Less plants definitely makes it easier. Especially if he's got multiple pest issues going on.
