I’ve had this succulent for more than two years now and a few months ago it was slowly losing its leaves until it became the size that it is now. The leaves that come off would be mushier than the other leaves and yellowish. Is it related to the white marks? Not sure if it’s due to over watering, but I took it out of its larger pot to see if it is root rot. I have another succulent that is doing very well so I’m confused why this one has been declining. Would very much appreciate any insight or advice! Thank you.

Sounds like overwatering to me if the leaves were yellow and mushy. The difference in health between this one and your other one could be different type of succulent than your other one, different exposure to sunlight, different types of soil, or even different type of pots they are planted in. Does one have drainage holes and the other doesn’t? Is one a clay pot and one isn’t?

They are both the same type of succulent, are placed near each other, have the same type of soil (potting), and both pots have drainage though the healthy one is in a terracotta pot and this one has been in plastic pots.

I think that’s the difference. My succulents like clay pots much better. The clay absorbs a lot of the water. If it is in a plastic pot it will need to be watered a lot less than the one in the terracotta pot.

Try putting it in a much sunnier location and let the soil dry completely. Look into a succulent fertilizer and get it in a schedule. I grow mine in many different types of pots and they all thrive the same. Good luck!

If the leaves were mushy and yellow it’s most likely overwatering. Make sure it’s in well draining gritty cactus soil (if it’s miracle Gro cactus soil put perlite for more drainage) and only water when if you stick a toothpick or wooden skewer all the way to the bottom and pull it up after a bit the toothpick/skewer is completely dry to the touch

Also put it in a sunnier location like in front of a south-facing window

Thank you for the toothpick tip! I usually only dip my finger an inch or two deep before
