Hi all! I’ve just started taking an interest in plants about a year ago. I bought this fig leaf fern due to its popularity. At my old house and circumstances, it did fairly well. Then we had a big move across town. I learned I had no drainage in my pot and why the new problems. He was swimming in water when I repotted him “Fergus”. Now he has drainage. The top leaves stand but are turning brown. The lower half is green but won’t branch out. Just all huddled together. I understand there was some shock in the beginning but now I don’t know what’s going on? I follow the Planta schedule exactly. I talk to it hoping to draw it out of this plant anxiety. What do you recommend???

Is there any way to arrange things so that it’s closer to the window? Going from too hot and sunny to cooler and shady is a big temp/environment change. I would try a brighter spot and ditch the plants water schedule. Test the soil with your finger or a skewer. Then snooze or update watering based off that.

Also, instead of following Planta’s schedule exactly, get a hydrometer. I have found that Planta wants me to water mine more often than is needed. Mine thrive in an east facing window with a pergola over the top so it is a lot of indirect morning light.

Thank you. I’ve never heard of a hydrometer. I will shop around.

Agree with Dory. It look likes it needs more light.

Please don’t go totally by Planta’s advice for watering. That is just a SUGGESTION. There’s no way for an app to account for all the variables in a person’s home. You can get an inexpensive hydrometer (Amazon) or just check the soil moisture with your finger. Don’t water until the top inch or so of the soil is dry. And I’ve never heard it called a fig leaf fern. It’s a fiddle leaf fig. 😊

Yes ! The plant is super sensitive to relocating. It gets too comfy where it is . Once moved it kind of stresses out Def more sunlight

I got a hydrometer for him! Perfect way to tell if he has enough water.
