so i got this dragon scale alocasia in the beginning of january and i repotted it in semi-hydro with lecca balls and since then it has grown a new leaf and two flowers. it started yellowing on its leaves probably three weeks ago and i am just trying to figure out WHY the leaves are yellowing.

    Too bad about the yellow, beautiful plant tho! I thing the yellowing is due to over or under watering…usually why plants react that way, I think.

    These fussy plants react to any change. I’m on verge of getting rid of mine. I have mine in semi hydro also. It’s very hard getting all of the soil off so I would check for any remaining soil within the roots. I had to throw one out the other day because still had some soil within and it developed rot. They also will go dormant when they have a change but start growing again few months later.

      I have one sitting on my props table that I cut back several weeks ago. Just noticed new growth on it yesterday.

    How does your semi-hydro setup look like? Do you flush it? Do you provide nutrients? How often do you change the reservoir?

    Too much water. Lost MANY alocasias that way. It's simply in my experience to grow them from corms. If you have any, I would just start over with those.

      I have 2 corms that I bought. Once they start growing, what do you do with them? Just put them in a nursery pot in aroid/chunky soil?

    You can use any substrate you're comfortable with. I only have one alocasia I grew from corm and I am most comfortable with chunky soil mix but I am using a naked root planter to help keep it moist. A lot of people grow them semi hydro
