Hello! The base to my Orchid had fallen off earlier this morning yet the roots of the plant are still green and healthy with no sign of root rot? I water my plant once a week along with a few sprays of orchid fertilizer once a week. Can someone please tell me what had happened and if my orchid can be saved?

crown rot 😔 this happens usually when water sits in the crevices of the leaves. i don’t think there’s any coming back from this unfortunately

in future to prevent this, don’t water directly onto the leaves. i like to soak my orchid pots (which should be full of holes for air) in a bowl of water for about 15 minutes on watering day and then drain thoroughly. this way, no water gets onto the leaves and into the nooks and crannies

Hey! Don’t worry, it sounds like your orchid still has a chance. Since the roots are still green and healthy, that’s a really good sign! Here’s what might have happened and what you can do next: 1. Base Falling Off: Sometimes, if an orchid has been stressed (either by watering inconsistencies or environmental changes), part of the base or leaves can detach. The important thing is that the roots look healthy, so the plant can still recover. 2. Care Tips: • Keep watering it once a week as you’ve been doing, but make sure the roots have good air circulation to prevent any potential rot. • Continue using the orchid fertilizer, but ensure it’s diluted properly so it doesn’t stress the plant further. • You might also want to mist the leaves lightly to add some extra humidity, which orchids love! 3. Repotting: If the roots look a little crowded, consider repotting it into fresh orchid bark to give it a fresh start. Just be gentle with the roots during the process. With some consistent care and attention, your orchid should bounce back. Let me know if you notice any changes!

this is not good info. just candidly, and respectfully, i’m finding these chat gpt responses to be kind of spammy on this platform. i think it’s a great resource to use for personal research but it feels out of place here

Hi! You mentioned how the base can potentially fall off if the orchid is stress and I think that might’ve been the case since recently my plant had a huge ant infestation so that could’ve been why, but thank you for the tips and I’ll make sure to keep an eye on it!

Tbh, I do have a paid subscription to ChatGPT. And I take the time to screenshot the images and the written questions and ask it for help. I then share the responses with the person asking. Using that app has helped me discover a new hobby… I guess I’ve entered my “plant era” and I have my first plants that are growing nicely because of my using that app and the subscription I pay for this app as well. I’m ADHD and anxious as heck, and between these two apps, I’m enjoying the outdoors and the excitement of new babies growing.
