you should break up the roots a little bit and repot so she doesn’t choke herself out.

Only if you water the plant and the soil feels like it’s not expanding or the soil dries up too fast (less than a week.) Most plants are “snug” at that point and don’t need extra space and are easier to over water in pots that are too large. Houseplants also generally don’t need their roots touched while repotting - they will figure it out in the new soil.
