Anyone know of something I can spray my plants with to make the cats keep from gnawing and munching on them? My spider plant is their favorite.

diluted citrus solution (lemon or orange juice mixed with water) or using a commercial bitter apple spray will do the trick!

It won’t hurt the animal? I’ve also got gnats so I thought about if I spray them with that if they would leave them alone

I wonder if you could make a water and peppermint oil/clove oil solution
it’s a good repellent for bugs at least; not sure if cats react to it or not.

My cat’s were obsessed with/would dig up my one spider plant (but not another) and I thought that was strange until I repotted it and found some pests in the soil. I took care of the pests and they haven’t given attention to the plant since. Not sure if this is relevant but maybe worth checking. Also using top dressing that blocks access to the soil such as heavy peddles could be helpful and can look nice.

cats are typically deterred by peppermint, citrus, and sometimes cinnamon. you could try sprinkling cinnamon on top of the soil, but a water and peppermint oil/citrus juice spray should do the trick!

My cat used to eat a lot of my plants, but once I gave him cat grass to eat instead, I would just divert him from eating my plants and put him by his plant to eat instead. Over time, he learned not to touch my plants, especially since I put some of my plants in a less convenient spot for him instead of directly on the floor/table where he can easily reach it. I just have them on a little shelving thing so they’re like a foot or two off the floor

I use Vicks vapor rub around the edges of my pots and stands.

spider plants have a psychoactive effect on cats who eat the leaves, your cats are more than likely attracted to your spider plant because they’re enjoying getting a little high
