I have had this flaming Katy for years. It is my only problem child. I cannot figure out how to deal with it. It was super bushy when I first got it and even bloomed a few times over the years and now it’s acting like I’ve betrayed it on every front. I had to repot it a few months ago and it did not look this stocky. Now within the last few days the middle and tallest one is drooping over with the stem being squishy and all its leaves falling off. I’m not sure what to do, please help!

I’m sorry I can’t offer much help - just wanted to provide validation because I, a generally successful plant grower, ALWAYS struggle with these guys. Always. Have you changed anything in this plant’s care lately? Repotted? Changed location? Have you checked for pests?

I have not, the only thing I can think of is that I watered it for the first time in a while after neglecting it. So maybe I should continue the neglect.

If the soil isn’t super well draining, it’s possible that there was still plenty of moisture when you watered it most recently. I’d definitely recommend always checking how dry the soil is before you water, regardless of how much time has passed, if you don’t already!

The best you can do is take a cutting and remove the mushy stem and roots. Disinfect with hydrogen peroxide. Replace the soil. Propogate the cutting. Add rooting hormone powder. Put the rooted cuttings back into the pot. Fertilize regularly and give it more light. 🪴🍀

Mine is so annoying. If it's mushy, I would just cut it and start over. I've heard that these guys really like to dry out and stay dry for a while.

I read that they like 14 hours of darkness, I moved them to my office with no windows and have a growling with a timer set.

I don’t know your location but can you give it full sun and that soil looks like it holds water. Maybe a cactus soil?
