Hello! My string of pearls died. I think I need to just repot and start over ....I saved some pieces. It was already struggling when it was given to me. I don't have a green thumb at all. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Doesn’t mean you don’t have a green thumb! String of pearls is my nemesis plant, I’ve tried three different times from three different plant nurseries and using three different care methods and all of them have failed me 😬💚just have to find plants that like and thrive in your home environment instead!

I have over 200 plants and can't keep a pearl alive to save lives lol 😆 😅 I finally convinced my grandma to stop giving me starts. Oddly she had to give me back string of turtles because it was dying on her. The only one that lasted the longest for me was growing it in moss. This was pre-humidifier, so one may be fine now... but a girl is traumatized 😭

Right??? I even put one in Terry, and no go. I've realized there's just some plants that aren't meant to live in my jungle, and that's okay 👌🏽 lol

I literally killed five of these before I got one to grow. I got two almost at the same time and literally neglected them so much that by the time I realized they were dying and tried to save them it was too late. Then I decided I was gonna try again, so I got some more, and killed those pretty quickly too. And then my friend gave me a start for my birthday, and it didn't last long either. So I gave up for then but I always said that someday I wanted to try again. So this summer I finally got another one and so far its doing great and has new growth🤞

Well, I can tell you whats working so far. When I got it, I repotted into a pot that was just barely bigger than the nursery pot, just a regular houseplant soil mix with some bark added I think. I make sure its completely dry before I water it, but don't let it stay dry for too many days. I have it in an east facing window. I fertilize every two weeks in the growing season, every six weeks now that its winter (i pry don't dilute my fertilizer quite as much as some people who would fertilize at every watering). I don't ever mist it directly, but there are plants right beside it that get misted about once a day so it pry gets a little drift from that.

It looks like you're gonna have to propagate the stuff thats still green. I have never successfully propped these, because propping was a last resort when the first five were dying, so I really can't tell you much. Try looking it up. And as for care afterwards, let it completely dry out and then maybe wait a couple days yet to water it. They also love light so an east, south, or west facing window would pry work. And make sure the soil is well draining. I also would advise you to take my suggestions with a grain of salt tho, cuz I have killed five of these and am just now getting one to grow.

I know better than owning a plant that has “String of xyz” in the title. I can barely keep a succulent alive. I could never keep a thin vine succulent alive! I almost bought one that was 3 feet long in a 6 inch pot and clearance priced. I talked myself out of it even though it was gorgeous and lush in the advertisement!🥺 I don’t want to be a serial killer! But, I really want one!😩 🤣🤣🤣

I think that's what irritates me the most. All the other strings I own are fine, inflorescence or blooming. But no pearls just wanna die

The really funny thing is when you read about them online and it says they are super easy.

😂Hey I wasnt saying that that was right! When I was killing my first five and I would read that I was like then why can't I keep one alive????? I think some people find them easy and everyone else is like "these things are totally impossible..."

I am part of this club and have killed 4 String of pearls. Currently on #5. My Nursery center manager told me to only water from the bottom like an African Violet. So far doing ok! Keeping My fingers crossed.
