Hi everyone! Any thoughts on whether this guy is salvageable? If so, how? I had this plants for a few years and it’s just slowly died of root rot (I just joined Planta and learned about root rot). Anyway I tried water therapy, which did nothing. Then I let him dry out for a few days. Next repotted him in a succulent mixture and that went ok. Then I bottom watered him and he started turning yellow :( Is it time to send him to succulent heaven?

It might be worth it to propagate using the leaves if the roots are struggling. If you want to do this tear off the healthy leaves and using a needle string them up with fishing line or something similar, put them somewhere sunny and just leave them alone. You can also let them dry for a day and then plant them in soil. I recommend checking out PlantswithKrystal on YouTube, she has lots of shorts on saving plants, including succulents.

It looks overwatered to me? Maybe just keep it in the new succulent soil and let it dry out completely, water a few weeks later? It will give the soil time to absorb the excess moisture. Someone gave me an aloe recently that was overwatered and didn’t get enough sun. The right soil, bright light ,and letting it be brought it back to life. It’s a vibrant gorgeous green and all the leaves plumped up.

I definitely try and propagate some leaves, but I think a repot in succulent soil might save it. Definitely agree with looking up plants with Krystal

Hey there. I see you made this post 2 weeks ago, but if there’s any of this plant left to salvage, I’d like to suggest giving the base of the plant a hydrogen peroxide soak (just the base of the plant, not the leaves. You can fill a cup with peroxide and place the plant in it for 20 minutes, then take it out and gently pat it dry. The peroxide will kill any lingering bacteria or rot. Once it’s been patted dry, I would put a generous amount of rooting powder (I use Bonide’s Rooting Hormone Powder. You can find it at Lowe’s/Home Depot, Ace Hardware, and likely your local nurseries) all over the base of the plant, then stick it into some fresh cactus mix, and bottom water the plant once repotted, allowing the soil to completely dry out between waterings. The rooting powder will help the plant develop new roots if it’s still salvageable. Hope this isn’t too late to help. If it is, I’m sorry about your succulent 😢
