Fiddle Leaf locks

😔😔😔 help please. The bottom leaves have already fallen off. I have a baby rubber that acts like it’s invincible so I thought this would be the same! Nope I’m so lost. Very odd.

Hello, same thing here. I recently inherited my grandmother's and I have the exact same issue.

Mine has done this recently too. Rubber trees, while being one of the more hearty ones, are still a type of ficus. Ficuses are super sensitive to changes in environment and drop leaves when things change too quickly, like changes in the light and temperature that comes with fall. At least that’s what I’m chalking it up to🤷🏼‍♀️

hello 👀 ficus tineke can be tricky because it’s a variegated variety and we all know variegated sometimes just means harder 😆 I’ve found that they struggle most inside pure peat mixes and especially if it’s a peat mix inside a plastic pot inside another plastic pot. These guys really prefer more oxygen around the root zone so when you don’t give it to them, they start showing stress signs like this (edges look like it’s molting inwards). Inside a cache pot set up like that, it can very possibly be too humid inside the pot. I would take it out of there and let it go bare butt and see if it helps. You can also repot but doing it in the fall can be risky.

not the same species but similar care. I keep it in mostly bark because peat tends to hold more moisture than it likes.

Just make sure you’re keeping an eye on humidity! Bark can be tricky because the top layer will dry out fast. I did this when it was warmer outside so the humidity was constantly higher because I’m lazy 🤣

So the variegated Ficus elastica are fussier than the all greens. Looking at the soil would say this is low humidity and uneven watering. I have an all green and am not the best waterer with it but it’s a lot hardier because the Tineke’s (yours) lighter patches mean less chlorophyll, meaning it can’t photosynthesise or recover from stress as efficiently. When the soil’s been left to dry a bit overlong it becomes hydrophobic and compacts moving away from the edges of the pot so any water runs straight down the sides and out of the pot. Would recommend using a fork or a chopstick to loosen the top of the soil to let the water seep through to the roots, and give it a good drench over the kitchen sink to let it fully drain, then place back and see how it goes.

This is excellent information thank you so much. I really couldn’t find a lot of information online or rather consistent information. I never really know what to trust. At times it seems like everything can grow in anything lol! 😂
