Hi everyone! I got this Swiss Monstera adansonii from Lowe’s the other day for like $10 on sale! She looks a little rough but I’m not sure because I have never had this type of plant before. I’m going to cut the really yellow leaf off and possibly the one underneath it but does anyone have any tips on how to take care of them? Also I’m not sure how far down to cut it:( I’m going to spray some neem oil on all the plants now to just make sure that no crazy pests or bugs come:( I also water all my plants in the tub to make sure they all get a good watering every time, is this ok or should I try a different technique, im new to plants so I don’t have too much knowledge. Thank you everyone in advance!

neem oil is not a preventative and shouldn’t be used as such. if you’re concerned about pests, i’d suggest washing off the leaves with castile soap and water. there’s no need to remove the yellowing leaves unless you find them unsightly. i wait until leaves are mostly brown and yellow before removing— snip the petiole (leaf stem) about an inch away from the stem. any green you see are cells still capable of photosynthesis. my adansonii is planted in a 1:1:1 blend of potting soil (coco coir and worm castings), coarse perlite, and fir bark chips. wait for about half the soil to be dry before watering again. also i really wouldn’t recommend watering your plants in the tub unless you have a drain cover as pieces of soil media can accumulate in the drain and clog your pipes.

Thank you so much for all the info🙏 I’ll have to repot it soon then, where do you recommend getting the above ingredients

most are available from your local hardware store but i get my special ingredients from repotme dot com. i use pumice in my soilless “soil” sometimes, which comes from sol soils. both brands have great premixed potting media as well, if you don’t feel like mixing your own. i forgot to mention in my original comment, it’s usually a good idea to wait a few weeks or even months to allow the plant to acclimate to your home before repotting, as long as it’s happy in its current arrangement.

I would cut the yellow leaves off. They won’t turn green again and the plant could put that energy toward new growth instead. I’ve found these to be pretty resilient and yours is just a bit shocked now due to coming to their forever home 😊. Yellowing can be a sign of over watering so for now, I’d let her dry all the way out before watering again. It’s easier to save an underwatered plant vs an over watered plant. Lastly, is your plant root bound? Do you have a good grow light? If no, then I’d wait several weeks before repotting her. That’s an additional shock on the plant. I like Plant Father’s soil mix suggestion as well as what to do as a preventative in the pests. Overall she looks like a healthy plant! Good luck and welcome to plant parenthood! 🪴🪴🪴
